The European PPL requires a minimum of 45 hours tuition. It allows pilots to fly in any European country and is the base onto which any necessary rating can be added. This may be a night rating, an Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) rating to fly on instruments in the UK, or indeed a twin engine aircraft rating.

A minimum of EASA Class 2 medical is required, conducted by an Aviation Medical Examiner.

As well as allowing more varied flying, the EASA PPL is the route to a professional flying career. Whether this means airline flying, other commercial work or instructing, the EASA PPL is the essential route.
